A Centaur and a Nereid with Tritons, a Putto and a Dolphin ( recto ); A Centaur and a Triton in Combat, a Nereid and other marine Creatures ( verso ) black and red chalk, pen and brown ink, brown wash, squared with the stylus ( recto ) 8.5/8 x 7 in. (218 x 176 mm.) PROVENANCE Federico Zuccaro, his inscription 'Schizo de mano de tadeo Inventor' ( recto and verso ). NOTES John Gere pointed out that this is a study of one of the ceiling decorations in the guardroom of the Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola, I. Faldi in Il Palazzo Farnese di Caprarola, Turin, 1981, p. 266, illustrated. Two studies for other compartments are in the Uffizi (Inv. 780S) and in a private collection, France.
