Description

TAGE FRID (Danish,/American, 1916-2004) LARGE BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD SIDEBOARD six drawers over four cabinet doors; height: 36 inches, length: 93 1/2 inches, depth: 24 inches; Note: Tage Frid came to the United States in 1948 to set up a woodworking program at the School for American Craftsman, at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York. During this time, Frid and two other professors, metal smith John Prip and ceramist Frans Wildenhain, set up a retail outlet in Rochester called Shop One. The shop provided the craftsmen a venue to sell their work and also brought the work of other nationally recognized craftsmen to Rochester. He went on to teach woodworking and furniture making at Rhode Island School of Design from 1962-1985. Some of his designs are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. (EH)
