Notes
Berlin-based artist Tobias Buche creates rough works comprised of collaged imagery meticulously mined from his personal archive. These collected photos and drawings - both found and created by the artist - create associations between the cultural landscape, media, and personal memory. A complex and non-linear narrative emerges from this combination of images, which functions both as a personal and collective memory. In 2006, Buche's work was shown at Witte de With as part of the group exhibition Street: behind the clich. In 2007 the Kunstverein Braunschweig, the Klosterfelde in Berlin, and STORE in London held a solo exhibition of Buche's work. Selected group exhibitions include On A Clear Day I Can See Forever The New Sentimentality, BCM, Tilburg (2009); Modern Modern, The Chelsea Art Museum, New York (2009); Fax, The Drawing Center, New York (2009); Tobias Buche and Jonas Lipps, Lehmann Maupin Gallery, New York (2008); Conditions of Display, The Moore Space, Miami (2007); Construction Time Again, Lisson Gallery, London (2007); Unmonumental, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2007); the 4th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2006); and Trial Balloons, MUSAC, Len (2006).
