All matted. I saw your face in Benin/ and in Ghana near Takoradi./ Then there on the plains of Bahia/ your gentle eyes said hi. Published posthumously in 2005, I Saw Your Face collects drawings of young people created by Feelings during his various travels both at home and around the world The published book has fine poetry by Kwame Dawes and a personal afterword by Feelings' close friend and fellow artist, Jerry Pinkney. His drawings are so well crafted that at first glance one is not aware of the line, but is lead directly into the humanity of his subjects. Tom created art from the heart. His art reaches out and touches us in a manner that compels us to partner in his vision of the beauty and rythym of black life. Tom embraced life and expressed it in his art. We now hold, in our hands, that gift. Jerry Pinkney. Everywhere I turn I see you there in the wetlands and on Windswept coasts (27)
