Description

RARE ROCKING CHAIR
Maple, original thin, bittersweet orange painted finish, brown walnut stained arms, five shaped slats, thumbback shaped posts, exaggerated curvilinear arms attached with screws to back posts, wooden pegged to front posts, (Note: back posts were originally cut for a higher seat and then not used and filled, and hole for left arm was miscut and filled), finely cut rockers attached to posts with screws, card taped to back on third slat in Ed Clerk's handwriting "Union Village Ohio Shaker armed rocking chair pictured on page 50 'The Shaker World' by John Kirk, and on page 311 of 'The Complete Book of Shaker Furniture' by Rieman and Burks", (see The Shaker Chair by Muller and Rieman, p. 102, 110 and 111 for details of the chair), 17" seat h, 44 1/2" overall h, woven 1/4" cane seat, and a multicolor shag rug that Ed doubled over to use as a seat cushion and a good place for his cats to sleep, (see page 128, Shaker Textile Arts, Beverly Gordon); (Ed Clerk collection).

If two or more identical absentee bids are received from different bidders, the bid first received by the Company will take precedent.
