Donated by the artist to the charity auction 'Kunstveiling voor Hongaarse kinderen' in support of Hungarian refugees. The auction was organized by the newspaper De Tijd on the occasion of the celebration of Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas' Day), 5-12-1956. Very nice letter by Bazaine who is honoured by the invitation to participate. He asks Sinterklaas for a little present from Holland in return. A present he will preserve in gratitude, or eat in gratitude "s'il s'agit d'un fromage!".
