Description

Wedgwood Queen's Ware "Frog Service" Platter, England, c. 1774, oval shape with black enamel painted landscape "View at Enville, Staffordshire" centering an arch and foliate banded border and with oak leaf trim with central green enamel frog crest, impressed mark and numbered 311 on the reverse, lg. 11 1/2 in.


Note: The dish is listed in the appendix of the Frog Service book with the note "The items in the first part of the appendix are the pieces made for the Green Frog Service which were eventually omitted for technical or other reasons when the service was shipped to Russia." Provenance: Mrs. D. Barnett Gow (exhibited at Wedgwood Bicentennial Exhibition 1930); Boswell & Ward; Sotheby's, London December 22, 1970, lot 154. At the time of the book's publication it was listed as "Private Collection."

Condition Report

Numerous minor flakes to the black enamel trim line; slight surface scratches.
