Conditions of Sale
Important Information for Buyers
If you are new to Wilkinson's please read the following information and condition of sale. If you are unsure or need any assistance please ask and we will be happy to advise.
Please be aware that some of the items sold will require CITES certificates for re-sale and export. We do not provide these certificates, nor will we apply on your behalf, although we will offer assistance where possible. It is your responsibility to apply for these certificates and make sure they can be imported into your chosen country. Failure to do this, or items being sanctioned/banned in your country is not an acceptable excuse for non payment of goods.
Buyer's Premium
A buyer's premium is payable of 20.00% of the hammer price of each lot purchased plus VAT as well as 5% Online Buyers Premium.
V.A.T.
Unless indicated, no VAT will be payable on the hammer price and the premium will be shown inclusive of VAT. (The VAT inclusive with the premium is not normally recoverable by the buyer.) However, occasionally VAT is charged on the hammer price at the appropriate rate. In these cases the lots will be indicated in the catalogue and announced by the auctioneer.
Bidding
Buyers must register before the sale at the office for a bidding number. The highest bidder is the buyer. In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer will determine the buyer, or at his discretion re-offer the lot. All lots become the responsibility of the buyer at the fall of the hammer. All lots should be paid for within seven days of the sale.
Commission and Telephone Bids
If you are unable to attend the sale the auctioneers will be happy to execute commission bids. Buyers can complete a commission bid form online from our direct website. Any commission bids left through the invaluable site are subject to additional commission of 5%. Forms are also available from the office and may be sent by post, fax and telephone. There are a limited number of telephone bids available for each sale. Please contact the auction house directly to organise a telephone bid, if available. The auctioneers do not accept any responsibility for any errors or omissions arising from commission or telephone bids.
Methods of Payment
Payments are required promptly after a sale, and within two weeks of the sale date, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed by the auctioneer. If as a buyer you are registered with the Stripe system payments that have not been made by 10 days after invoices have been issued will be automatically taken. There is an additional surcharge of 5% added to any and all invoices which are not paid directly and for which payment has to be taken through the Stripe payment system. We accept the following methods of payment:
Paying by cash.
Cash payments are accepted, upto the legal limit, in person only.
Paying by Debit or Credit Cards.
Payments can be made by Credit or Debit Card directly by contacting us with card details. Alternatively we can send you a direct link to pay through the Stripe system, an additional surcharge of 5% is added for this option. If you would like to pay by this method please contact the office after the sale so they can send you the appropriate link with any appropriate surcharges. Any jewellery or silver/gold items are to be paid either in person or via bank transfer PRIOR to collection. We will not accept card payments over the telephone for these items.
Paying by BACS or transfer:
Our bank details are at the bottom of all invoices sent out after a sale, but if any further information is required please contact the office and they will gladly send confirmation of our full international and UK bank details.
Condition Reports
Wilkinson's are pleased to give verbal condition reports, which are meant as a guide only. For the current sale items are largely sold as seen due to a limit to the amount of testing possible with these items.
Any statement made by the Auctioneer from the rostrum before accepting any bids shall be deemed to supersede any conditions, notices, descriptions and statements made in the catalogue or elsewhere.
Wilkinson's endeavour to catalogue all lots correctly, however should any lot prove to be a deliberate forgery, the auctioneers upon receipt of a written notice of such within seven days of the sale, shall rescind the sale, provided that the lot is returned within fourteen days of the sale in the same condition as at the time of sale. The benefit of this guarantee shall not be assignable. By making a bid, each buyer conditions, the damages recoverable by the vendor or the auctioneers from the defaulters shall include any loss incurred on sale, together with commission and expenses in respect of both sales.
Electrical Goods
It is essential that lots which were originally operated by mains electricity be checked by a qualified electrician before use. They may not comply with the current statutory requirements and as such are offered for solely for display of historical purpose.
General
Wilkinson's is situated in the centre of Doncaster near the market and is close to Doncaster's main line station (regular from King's Cross, London). Doncaster is served by M1, M18, M180 and A1(M) motorways.
Deliveries
Deliveries can be arranged by approved carriers, at the best available rates. Alternatively we are happy to post items as appropriate, although please be aware we are not responsible for any loss or damage during transit. A number of carriers are available for smaller delicate items, please contact us with any enquiries. It is the buyers responsibility to check and confirm they are happy with any shipping or certification requirements for endangered or rare items related to their country (CITES). Although assistance will be granted, where possible, it is not Wilkinson's Auctioneers responsibility to review country import requirements for each piece, nor to apply for certificates on behalf of any bidder/buyer. If the winning bidder discovers there are limits or restrictions related to an item purchased after a lot has been won this is not grounds to delay or refuse payment, all means will be used to secure the payment due and appropriate feedback left in this situation. Items which are not collected/shipped within two weeks of the sale, without prior arrangement will be subject to storage fees of £10 per week.
