CATALOGUE NOTE

This miniature is after a portrait by Robert Edge Pine of David Garrick, now in the National Portrait Gallery.

David Garrick (1717-1779) was one of the most celebrated theatrical personalities of his day. He was an actor, dramatist and theatre manager. He bought half the patent of Drury Lane in 1747 and was associated with that theatre until his retirement, when he sold his share to Richard Brinsley Sheridan.
