William Linnell (1826 - 1906) 'Harvest'; "when labour drinks his boiling sweat to thrive" (Chapman) signed and indistinctly dated '59 bottom left inscribed on an old label attached to the reverse oil on canvas 76.5 x 121.5cm. Exhibited: The Royal Academy 1859, No. 661. William Linnell was the eldest son of John (1792 1883). This style is similar to John and at his best, such as the present lot, he was his equal.
