“Opening day went very well, and we are very pleased. We’ve already sold a Matisse, and we have a few more offers from VIPs that we expect to return today. We’re also getting a lot of questions about one of our star works, our Sam Francis,” says Lauren Close of David Tunick Gallery (Booth 82).

Cassandra Bowes of Thomas Gibson Fine Art Ltd. (Booth 85) also noted two Henri Matisse drawings that sold on day one. “Things have been going very well, and I’ve heard similar responses from many other dealers at the show. A few New Yorkers have said this is the best fair they’ve ever attended, of all the New York fairs.”
“There are so many wonderful collectors here, and it’s really a beautiful show. We’ve had a lot of interest in our Lucio Fontana. It was a very positive day yesterday, overall,” says Elena Bodecchi of Cardi Gallery. Fontana’s vibrant works, among those by other notable Italian artists, served as focal points for many galleries at the show.
