There is a long history behind the term facsimile, which has even been used since the mid-nineteenth century to indicate "copy, exact reproduction of an original". These facsimiles faithfully reproduce statute books and manuscripts, mostly miniati, jealously guarded in libraries all over the world: only thanks to these faithful reproductions can a wide audience, even not just scholars, enjoy the beauty of absolute masterpieces of amanuensis art. A selection of 129 lots for over 150 volumes that outline a journey within this refined publishing production, starting from the 1930s until the 1980s. Fifty years of publishing mostly German, Austrian, Swiss but also Italian, embracing different genres, favoring books of Hours and illuminated manuscripts of luxury but without neglecting bestiaries, medical, botanical, scientific texts etc. IMPORTANT NOTICE Each lot is sold as it is and must be examined by the potential buyer.
