According to this year's Hiscox Online Art Trade Report, Instagram has become the leading social media tool in the art world, particularly for users under the age of 35. Leonardo DiCaprio was reported to have purchased a work at PULSE New York in 2015 after seeing it on Instagram, and other news stories have appeared about auction houses selling works immediately after posting online. As more people are using social media and mobile apps to discover, engage with (and in many cases, purchase) art, how are museums, auction houses and other cultural institutions using these tools? This panel discussion will explore ways in which auction houses, galleries, museums and other art institutions are using social media and other tools to create awareness and make sales, the impact social media and mobile technology is having on the overall art market, and best practices to get the most out of these important mediums.
Panelists: Brendan Ciecko (Cuseum), Alexandra Lambert (Paddle 8), Danielle Miele (Gem Gossip), Megan Newcome (Phillips)
