Toy Categories
The Walt Disney Co. began featuring Mickey Mouse comic strips in newspapers in January of 1930. Disney’s Ub Iwerks and Win Smith created comic strips that ran in newspapers from May 1930 until the fall of 1975, making it one of the longest-running comic strips in history.
Disney comic books became highly successful after WWII. Books featuring Peter Pan, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Donald Duck, Goofy and many other characters entertained children of all ages. Later, new characters added to the depth of comic books issued by Disney, including Chip n’ Dale, Scamp, and Pinocchio.
Today, recreations of original comic books and comic strips have been reproduced and reissued, creating another level of collecting for today’s buyers. Vintage comics are no longer limited to children. Adult buyers collect entire series, or entire years, even sold by prices ranging from 10 cents to 25 cents per copy. Disney comics have grown extensively with collectors throughout the world and have reached their highest levels in many parts of Europe.
