Biometric Art Passport to accompany a Monet painting at June 6th auction – the first art masterpiece accompanied by an NFT-equivalent.

Press Releases

MONTBAZON, Loire Valley, France – Rouillac, the French auction house, will deliver a Biometric Art Passport, created by Swiss technology company Artmyn, to the buyer of La Ville de Dieppe,1882, a painting by Claude Monet, to be sold at live auction on June 6 at the Château d’Artigny, near the city of Tours, France, and online at Invaluable.com.

The Biometric Art Passport is a digital portfolio, containing an unprecedented amount of provenance and condition data from the physical properties of La Ville de Dieppe masterpiece by Monet–its “digital DNA”–and, once registered on the blockchain, will protect it forever from forgery.

The Biometric Art Passport is to physical works of art what the Non-Fungible Token, or NFT, is to digital works.  It is made using Artmyn’s scanner, which captures the physical properties and topography of a work under visible, ultra-violet (black light) and infrared light, making it viewable, as if the original is in-hand, using patented ultra-high-resolution scanning technology and image processing algorithms.

Alexandre Catsicas, Artmyn Co-founder & CEO, said, “While Non-Fungible Tokens facilitate trading in the emerging market for digital and intangible works of art, Artmyn’s Biometric Art Passport brings a new level of transparency for physical artworks.”

Neal Glazier, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Invaluable, said, “With the rapid growth of digital transactions in the auction industry during covid, Artmyn’s Biometric Art Passport is a key missing ingredient for marketing art online.  As an early adopter of Artmyn’s immersive technology, Invaluable is excited to host this remarkable Monet masterpiece, now online at Invaluable.com, from acclaimed auction house Rouillac.”
