Judaica Cups & Plates

Judaica, or Jewish ceremonial art, has been a key feature of Judaism for millenia. Judaica glorify God and serve important religious functions for their owners. They appear in various forms and are used during daily prayer and ritual, as well as during special religious occasions.

Judaica cups and plates are frequently used during Kiddush ceremonies to consecrate the Shabbat and Jewish holidays. Kiddush, which means "sanctification," involves a blessing recited over the wine or grape juice held within the Kiddush cup. This act not only reminds practicing Jews of their faith in God and His ten commandments, but also strengthens their religious commitment through the repetition of the ritual. Kiddush cups are often made of engraved silver, although variants made of other metals, glass, and plastic are also used. Many cups are kept atop saucers or accompanied by small plates intended to hold challah bread, cake, or crackers.

Judaica cups and plates are living works of art used often by practicing Jews. However, collectors of Judaica also admire them for their superb craftsmanship and striking variety. Today, a wide range of Jewish ceremonial art is available at auction.
