L.G.B. G Scale Model Railroads & Trains
Model Train Categories
LGB G scale model railroads have been in production since 1968. Originally manufactured by the Lehmann
Patentwerk Company of Brandenburg, Germany, LGB G scale model railroads were produced with the intent that
model railroad hobbyists could run the trains outdoors. LGB was the first company to promote garden railroads,
manufacturing model trains that could be run outdoors.
LGB stands for "Lehmann Gross Bahn," which means Lehmann Big Train. These trains are produced in G scale,
which also stands for the German word "gro?," or big. Many people think that the G in G scale stands for garden.
This is not correct, but has helped to popularize the use of G scale model trains in garden railroads. LGB led the way
in the promotion of G scale trains in garden railroads and continues to promote this hobby today.
LGB was purchased by Marlkin in 2008. They continue to produce G scale model railroads under the LGB
name and currently offer over 600 G scale model railroad products.
