MTH O Scale Model Railroads & Trains
Model Train Categories
MTH, which originally stood for Mike's Train House, was founded in 1980 by Mike Wolf. Wolf started selling
model trains in 1973 when he was 12 years old for Williams Electric Trains. By 1980, Wolf was selling Williams
trains and parts out of his childhood bedroom. When Williams stopped making Lionel reproductions, Wolf bought
the tooling and continued to produce the replicas himself under the name MTH.
MTH produces a large line of O gauge model railroad products in both two rail and three rail. Since the
company was founded, they have continued to specialize in reproductions of models originally released by other O
gauge manufacturers like Lionel. MTH currently produces Lionel tinplate reproductions.
MTH is currently the second-largest manufacturer of O gauge model railroad products in the United States. The
company also produces model train products in HO scale and one gauge.
Quick Facts
RailKing is MTH's best selling line of O gauge model railroad products. RailKing locomotives and cars
are shorter than standard O gauge cars to allow for tighter turns on smaller model railroad layouts
MTH prides itself on connecting with customers through many different methods, including a weekly
newsletter, social media, and an MTH smart phone app
